The Retreat
The Retreat rests on the beach of a stunning bay on the eastern tip of Bali. Traditional Balinese fishing skiffs line the shore and across the sea, in the distance, can be seen the volcanoes of Lombok.
A 15 minute drive from the village of Amed, The Retreat is in an area that is famous for its diving and snorkelling, its beautiful beaches, its temples and friendly unspoilt villages, all set under the shadow of Bali’s largest and most sacred volcano, Mount Agung.
Mount Agung itself is home to Bali’s mother temple, Besakih. Spread over a large area, Besakih is actually a complex of many temples, the first of which was built in the eighth century, when Buddhism and Hinduism first came to prominence in Bali.
Within a short driving distance is Limpuyang. A smaller mountain with three temples, the main being the White Dragon Temple - sister temple of Besakih.
These sacred mountains provide beautiful areas to walk and enjoy a magical side of Bali that many never see. Because it is far from the more popular tourist areas, this unspoiled corner of Bali retains much of the rich and vibrant sacred heritage that has drawn travellers and seekers to these shores for centuries.
Nurtured by these powerful natural and sacred surroundings, we trust you will find it easy to stop with us awhile, rest, let go and recharge.
